Needles apparently stuck into the body of an 11-month-old baby by her aunt were surgically removed on Tuesday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Doctors at Beijing Children's Hospital said Fan Zixuan from eastern Shandong province was in good condition and was likely to recover within a week.

Fan was found to have 12 syringe and sewing needles inside her body piercing her liver, kidney and other organs.

Her aunt whom police suspected of inserting the needles inside the baby' body committed suicide by taking poison last Friday.

Earlier this year, a woman from central Hubei province was detained on suspicion of chopping off the ears off her six-year-old nephew.
