National carmaker Proton Holdings Berhad is set to initiate a recall of 94,577 units of its cars that is said to have faced problems after it reached an average mileage of 40,000 kilometres (km).

Its Chief Executive Officer Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah said Proton will spend over RM2 million as part of its service fix to replace the CFE oil cooler hose of the vehicle, due to the degradation of the internal hose material.

“This recall initiative will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in the next six months.

“We will call the owners and priority will be given to the cars with a mileage of 40,000 km and above,” he told reporters at a media briefing at the Proton Center of Excellence (CoE) in Shah Alam on Tuesday.

Abdul Harith said, the cost to replace the rubber hose is valued at RM7 to RM8 per piece but will require a high labour cost.

The vehicles affected are from the Exora, Preve and Suprima models.

At the same event, Proton also introduced the carmaker’s latest Proton Perdana model which is expected to be launched in the first quarter of this month.

Proton chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said, bookings for the car have already been opened and it will be priced between RM100,000 to RM150,000 per unit.
