Budget 2017 will encourage the use of electric vehicles in this country.

Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said they plan to increase the number of charging stations to encourage the use of electric vehicles.

"The use of electric vehicles has yet to be expanded as we need to promote infrastructure such as charging stations," he told reporters after launching 'Karnival Yahijau Langkawi 2016', here Saturday.

The promotion will involve the Finance Ministry, the Transport Ministry and the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI).

"KeTTHA's role is to reduce the release of carbon dioxide," said Ongkili.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will table Budget 2017 on Friday. -- Bernama
