A hoax caller pretending to be air traffic control tapped into restricted radio frequencies and forced an Australian commercial flight to pull up just before landing, a report said.

A Virgin Australia flight bound for Brisbane was turned back to Los Angeles after a crack was found in the passenger jet's windscreen, the airline said Thursday.

The carrier said the long-haul flight was turned around for the comfort of passengers and it had been cleared to return to service.
