Malaysia recorded 38 new Covid-19 cases, the majority of which are Malaysians returning from abroad.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 26 of the cases were imported while 12 were local transmissions.

From the imported cases, 20 were Malaysians returning from Egypt, four from Indonesia and two from the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Dr Hisham urged Malaysians to not stigmatise foreign nationals following a spike in cases involving non-Malaysians last week.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has urged Malaysians not to discriminate or stigmatise the group involved in a tabligh gathering at a mosque in Sri Petaling late last month.

He said the focus should be on detecting and containing the spread of the coronavirus in that group and their contacts. 60% of the total cases in the country are linked to this cluster. 

Malaysia recorded 106 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, bringing the total to 1,624 cases.

Of the 106 new cases, he said 43 were traced to the cluster of infections from the tabligh gathering.

Health Director-General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has said that the daily number of local infections has shown a downward trend which is in keeping with the ministry's projections.

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has called on the public not to stigmatise the tabligh congregants and avoid discriminating against them.
