#KiniNews: RMCO extended to March 31 - Ismail Sabri

The government has extended the recovery movement control order (RMCO) until Mar 31, 2021, after the previous order lapsed at the end of 2020.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said certain activities are still not allowed in recovery MCO areas, including those at pubs and nightclubs - except those operating as restaurants. Activities that involve large crowds where physical distancing is difficult are also barred.

Ismail said extending the recovery MCO was necessary due to the rise in Covid-19 cases - which he said was in part due to mass-screening of migrant workers, as well as community infections in the Klang Valley and other states.

#KiniNews: Malaysia records 62 new Covid-19 cases

Malaysia has reported 62 new cases of Covid-19 in the 24 hours up to noon today, which is the highest single-day increase since the recovery movement control order (MCO) was implemented.

The last time the country recorded more cases was on June 4, when 277 cases were reported on that day. The recovery MCO began on June 10.

The Health Ministry said 56 of the new cases today were locally acquired while six were imported.
