Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today unveiled tougher measures to control the spread of Covid-19, this includes the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in six states - Penang, Selangor, Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan), Melaka, Johor and Sabah - for 14 days, from Wednesday until January 26.

Another six states - Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan - will be under the ongoing conditional MCO.

The Recovery MCO will be enforced in Perlis and Sarawak for the same period.

The government has extended the recovery movement control order (RMCO) until Mar 31, 2021, after the previous order lapsed at the end of 2020.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said certain activities are still not allowed in recovery MCO areas, including those at pubs and nightclubs - except those operating as restaurants. Activities that involve large crowds where physical distancing is difficult are also barred.

Ismail said extending the recovery MCO was necessary due to the rise in Covid-19 cases - which he said was in part due to mass-screening of migrant workers, as well as community infections in the Klang Valley and other states.

The National Security Council (NSC) has lifted the state-wide conditional movement control order (MCO) previously imposed on Terengganu and Malacca.

Beginning Nov 21, the order will be lifted for most parts of Kedah and Johor as well, said Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

In Kedah, the conditional MCO has been extended for Kulim until Dec 6. In Johor, the order has been extended for another two weeks for Mersing and Kota Tinggi.

Starting tomorrow, the four states minus these three districts will be under a more relaxed recovery MCO.

Kelantan, meanwhile, will be placed under a two-week conditional MCO beginning tomorrow (Nov 21) until Dec 6 due to a recent spike in infections there.

Six states are still under the Conditional MCO, namely Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Penang, Kelantan and Sarawak, while 10 other states and federal territories are under Recovery MCO.

The CMCO imposed on Kedah, Perak and Negeri Sembilan will be changed to Recovery MCO from Friday until March 31 while six states will continue to be under the CMCO.

All social events including weddings, engagements, solemnisation of marriage and anniversary celebrations are allowed in the Conditional Movement Control Command (CMCO) and Recovery MCO (RMCO) areas.

The government has today agreed to tighten again the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO) that was eased during the implementation of the Recovery MCO (RMCO).

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has simplified the process for those who wish to set up a stall or food truck during the Recovery MCO period.

The government will not hesitate to implement the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in the event of a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases during the Recovery MCO (RMCO).

The RMCO would be implemented as the country's phase of exit strategy against the COVID-19 pandemic.
