The daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Nurulhidayah, was fined RM800 by the Magistrate's Court in Putrajaya today for violating the movement control order (MCO) last month.

Her husband Saiful Nizam was also fined RM800.

Magistrate Shah Wirah Abdul Halim meted out the sentences after the two pleaded guilty to charges of breaching Section 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

In a separate development, Senior Minister (security cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government will no longer enforce the 10pm to 6am curfew or inter-district travel restrictions.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today stressed that there were no double standards in the conviction of Deputy Health Minister Noor Azmi Ghazali and Perak exco member Razman Zakaria who were fined RM1,000 for violating the Prevention and Control of Infectious Disease (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

Ismail explained that the duo did not violate the MCO but had instead breached the standard operating procedure (SOP) governing movements during the MCO, such as practising social distancing.

He said this is because the government had already announced that elected representatives can move around to assist the people during the MCO, subject to rules and regulations.

Amendments to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) which were to be discussed and decided today have been postponed to the next Parliament sitting.

The Dewan Rakyat sitting, scheduled to end today, has been extended by one day until Monday, Dec 20, to enable the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Bill 2021 to be decided.
