#KiniNews | Najib: Over RM81 million allocation for Jasa unacceptable

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak (Umno-Pekan) said today that the four-fold increase in allocation under Budget 2021 to revive the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) propaganda unit was "unacceptable" and would court public anger.

He said this in his debate of the Supply Bill (Budget) 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

"In times of a crisis when allocations are more needed to save the people, the introduction of a four-fold increased allocation for Jasa compared to times under BN is hard to accept and has courted public anger.

"I can accept if the allocation is used to buy face masks or hand sanitiser for the people or given to parents as a replacement for their children's missed breakfasts under the Rancangan Makanan Tambahan scheme," he said.

#KiniNews: Rosmah allegedly paid cybertroopers RM100k a month to guard her image

Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, was allegedly very conscious about her image and purportedly forked out RM100,000 a month to fund cybertroopers who were tasked to counter negative content about her on the internet.

This according to her former aide Rizal Mansor who testified in Rosmah's graft trial today involving a solar hybrid project which she allegedly helped Jepak Holdings to secure in exchange for kickbacks.

"She gave me RM100,000 cash every month to fund the team," Rizal testified at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.

#KiniNews: SRC money used to help orphans, says Najib

About a week after he was found guilty of money laundering, criminal breach of trust and abuse of power in the SRC International trial, Najib Abdul Razak has come forward to insist none of the RM42 million involved had been for “personal use” or bribes.

The former prime minister also vowed to appeal the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s “unfair” verdict.

In a seven-minute video released late last night, Najib claimed that SRC money had been used for Umno “welfare programmes” and “corporate social responsibility” (CSR) initiatives for orphans; never for himself.

#KiniNews: 'We're all tired' - DG disappointed and saddened by Najib rally

The Health Ministry is monitoring if any Covid-19 cases or clusters will emerge from the large gathering of Najib Abdul Razak's supporters outside the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex yesterday.

"It has been seven months since we have worked day and night, shed tears and sweat in our effort to prepare (for this pandemic)".

"We were disappointed and sad when we saw the gathering. I am not involved in politics but it's about following the SOPs," he said when asked about public concerns over the rally.

Any signs of a new virus cluster would manifest within the next two weeks as per the Covid-19 incubation period, he cautioned.

#KiniNews: Najib needs to pay RM1.69 billion tax

The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) succeeded in its bid for summary judgment in a suit to recover RM1.69 billion in income tax from Najib Abdul Razak.

In effect, this means the former prime minister now has to pay the RM1.69 billion in tax to the IRB.

This followed the Kuala Lumpur High Court's decision this afternoon to allow the IRB's application for summary judgment in its RM1.69 billion tax suit against Najib.

Summary judgment is where a court decides on a case without going for a full trial, thereby dispensing with the hearing of the testimony of witnesses, among others.

#KiniNews: Anwar agrees with Najib on perils of a slim majority

After three days of new cases in the single-digits, the number of new Covid-19 cases re-entered double digits with 31 new cases reported as of noon today.

Meanwhile, in the interview with Malaysiakini, Pakatan Harapan leader Anwar Ibrahim stressed that he would not compromise on principles for the sake of winning the numbers game.

The PKR president also declined to elaborate when asked if he had reached out to GPS, saying he is engaging all quarters.

With the numbers game still fluid, certain quarters like former premier Najib Abdul Razak argued that a change of government with a slim majority would lead to instability and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong could instead choose to dissolve Parliament in order to hold national polls.

"I agree with Najib on this point,” said Anwar. “There is no point in forcing change when you have a very slim majority, because you would go back to square one... (if there are) one or two MPs not happy with their positions," he added.
