Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said a new wave of COVID-19 infections in the country is expected to occur earlier than expected in the next two to three months based on a rise in daily cases.

A total of 1,337 individuals recovered from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,474,358.

The Health Ministry today reported 1,884 new COVID-19 infections, a new record high in daily cases.

The previous record was set on Nov 6 with 1,755 new cases.

The spike was largely contributed by the Teratai cluster which involves workers from Top Glove's factories in Klang.

Selangor made up a majority of the new cases with 1,203 infections. Out of this, 1,067 of them were from the Teratai cluster.

The government will evaluate and refine existing strategies in the fight against COVID-19 to determine if they are still effective in tackling the surge in daily cases.

Masidi said that based on today's cases, the Kota Kinabalu district recorded the highest number of daily infections out of the 27 districts in Sabah.
