Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called on UMNO members to close ranks to defend "Rumah UMNO" from being invaded by those who only wish to destroy it, including its own former leaders.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today urged all its members at the grassroots level to reject any former leaders who want to destroy the party to fulfil their political ambitions.

Without naming anyone, Najib said the leaders, including one deemed a statesman, had even been willing to befriend those who were once his enemies in order to fight and topple UMNO and BN leaders.

Former leaders should also realise that when they were in power, they too were loved and respected, and now that they were no longer in power, it would be their turn to show the same love and respect.

UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein is confident the party is not threatened even in the face of numerous tests, including attacks from former leaders who are turncoats.

Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reminded former national and party leaders not to become 'old holy books' who are not respected by the present generation.

Former UMNO leaders urged to support the current party leadership just as much as they had needed support when they were in power.
