The Health Ministry has reported 2,188 new COVID-19 cases, marking a record high for the second consecutive day.

The previous record was yesterday's 1,884 new cases.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 1,623 latest cases in Selangor, 1,511 came from the Teratai cluster, which is linked to Top Glove's factories in Klang, Selangor.

#KiniNews: Malaysia records highest number of new COVID-19 cases with 1,884 cases

The Health Ministry today reported 1,884 new COVID-19 infections, a new record high in daily cases.

The previous record was set on Nov 6 with 1,755 new cases.

The spike was largely contributed by the Teratai cluster which involves workers from Top Glove's factories in Klang.

Selangor made up a majority of the new cases with 1,203 infections. Out of this, 1,067 of them were from the Teratai cluster.

The government has ordered the public and private workers in management and supervisory positions in areas under conditional movement control order (MCO) to work from home starting Oct 22.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this is to keep Covid-19 cases in check by reducing the number of people working in offices and factories.

He said a list of sectors affected will be issued by the International Trade and Industry Ministry.

#KiniNews: Pollution source under investigation, water supply to be restored in 24 hours

Four water treatment plants that had their operations suspended after another case of river pollution was detected in Selangor will resume operations and water supply is expected to be restored within 24 hours, according to Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Tuan Ibrahim said initial investigations revealed a similar scent to the previous Sept 3 pollution incident that affected 1.2 million households.

He said the ministry did not rule out the dumping of solvent by illegal factories operating around Selangor.
