To commemorate #InternationalWomensDay 2024, this episode of #TheFutureIsFemale aims to shine a spotlight on a pressing issue at the intersection of gender equality and healthcare: the gender pain gap. Melisa Idris speaks to Dr Hannah Nazri, Director and Founder of the collective, Malaysian Doctors for Women & Children. She is a National Institute for Health and Care Research Academic Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Warwick, and has completed her PhD in endometriosis research at the Oxford University. She is also a member of the Board of Advisors for the Asia Network to End FGM/C.

Endometriosis affects up to 300,000 women in Malaysia, although figures could be higher due to under-diagnosis.

It has come to symbolise how illnesses that only affect women have long been ignored by a historically male-focused medical establishment.

Researchers are sounding the alarm, calling for preventive measures to reduce public exposure to these compounds.

Initially developed by men and for men in India, today yoga is popular all over the world and has been specially adapted for women.

Endometriosis may not be a familiar name to many, but it affects women every year.
