#KiniNews: Gov't extends CMCO in KL, S'gor, Sabah and several localities in other states

The conditional movement control order (MCO) in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Sabah and several localities in other states has been extended until Jan 14, 2021, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said the government decided on this after taking the advice and risk assessment of the Health Ministry (MOH) based on the trend and increase in positive Covid-19 cases in these areas and the emergence of new clusters in Kuala Lumpur.

Ismail said for the other states, the extension of the conditional MCO will also affect Southwest Mukim 12 and Northeast Mukim 13 in Penang; Seremban in Negeri Sembilan; and Johor Bahru and Batu Pahat in Johor.

#KiniNews: Health DG urges M'sians to stay home as 260 cases recorded

Malaysia reported 260 new cases of Covid-19 today of which only one is imported while the remaining 259 were locally acquired infections.

The number includes four new clusters in Selangor, Sabah, Putrajaya, and Kedah.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah noted that this is the second-highest increase in the number of cases in a single day, after the 277 cases recorded on June 4 amid the outbreak at the Bukit Jalil immigration detention depot at the time.

The Health Ministry is monitoring if any Covid-19 cases or clusters will emerge from the large gathering of Najib Abdul Razak's supporters outside the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex yesterday.

"It has been seven months since we have worked day and night, shed tears and sweat in our effort to prepare (for this pandemic)".

"We were disappointed and sad when we saw the gathering. I am not involved in politics but it's about following the SOPs," he said when asked about public concerns over the rally.

Any signs of a new virus cluster would manifest within the next two weeks as per the Covid-19 incubation period, he cautioned.

The country today recorded 93 new Covid-19 cases, the highest in five days.

The spike was contributed by the discovery of more infections at the Bukit Jalil immigration detention depot in Kuala Lumpur and the outbreak linked to a chicken farm in Pedas, Negeri Sembilan.

Only two of the 93 new Covid-19 cases involved Malaysians while the 91 others were foreigners.
