Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir said the proposal to UNESCO that Sungai Batu and Bujang Valley in Merbok be declared a world heritage site would be sent by end 2014.

The directive would be issued to avert a recurrence of the incident where the ruins of an ancient temple were destroyed last Monday in Sungai Batu in the archaeologically rich Bujang Valley.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said the ruins can be reconstructed on its original site or near the Universiti Sains Malaysia excavation site at Sungai Batu.
