The government has channelled RM20.941 billion to 357,948 employers through the WSP to maintain the employment of 2.96 million local workers.

It is the matter of matching the industry demand and the supply of graduates into the labour market.

Given that the tourism sector is indeed one the most affected in terms of job security and losses, more could be done by the government under the purview of Budget 2021.

A total of RM17 billion from the COVID-19 Fund will be spent mainly on the Wage Subsidy Programme (WSP), small-scale infrastructure projects, SMEs soft loan and food security.

Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said WSP has helped reduce unemployment in the country as the rate dropped from five per cent in May to 4.7 per cent in July.

The extension of the Wage Subsidy Programme (WSP) for another three months would further ease the financial burden faced by businesses and provide job security to affected employees.
