Powerlifter Bonnie Bunyau Gustin successfully defended his gold medal at the Paris Paralympics, smashing his own world record in the process.

The 232kg lift is a new Paralympic Games record for Bonnie Bunyau Gustin, surpassing his previous mark of 228kg set at Tokyo 2020.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli, after he secured a silver medal at the Paris Paralympics in the men's (intellectual disability) shot put final on Tuesday.

Malaysia won its first medal at the Paris Paralympics after sprinter Eddy Bernard claimed bronze in the men’s 100m final, setting a new Asian record.

Eddy Bernard clinches bronze in the men's 100-metre (m) T44 (physical impairment) event at the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

The event on the Champs Elysees and the Place de la Concorde was the first Paralympics curtain-raiser to be held outside a stadium.

Paris 2024 has sold just over two million tickets for the Paralympic Games, organisers said hours before the opening ceremony.

Organisers said that more than 1.75 million tickets already sold ahead of the Aug. 28 start of the Paralympics.
