A variety of Sarees to wear on Deepavali

In Malaysia, not only Indians will don the Saree during Deepavali, even non-Indians do so because of the elegant look it creates.
The humble Saree, an attire worn by Indian women from many centuries ago, has evolved so drastically that in today's modern time, there are so many variations of it.
International Saree Guru and cosmetologist, Pallavi Sri, says people nowadays are spoilt for choice with the wide array of Sarees available, especially during festive seasons such as Deepavali.
"In Malaysia, not only Indians will don the Saree during Deepavali, even non-Indians do so because of the elegant look it creates.
"Today, wearing Sarees has become a fashion," she says.
Pallavi says there are some particular types of Sarees that people can opt for to wear for Deepavali:
Casual Saree
"Casual Sarees are one of those versatile Sarees that can be worn daily. The material for this type of Saree is usually thin and breathable. Some even wear it for shopping," says Pallavi.
She says Casual Sarees are normally priced anything between RM40 and RM140.
Cotton Saree
Pallavi says Cotton Sarees are perfect for Malaysia's hot weather. "It also won't hurt your budget," she says.
She says Cotton Sarees are usually priced between RM50 and RM100.
Wedding Saree
"This type of Sarees are heavy with intricate embroidery and stone work. They are really grand and are usually worn for weddings and wedding dinners," she says.
Wedding Sarees can be priced anything between RM1,500 and RM80,000, says Pallavi.
Lace Saree
"Lace Sarees are fun and flirty. A perfect attire for dinner, says Pallavi, adding that these types of Sarees usually cost between RM300 and RM800.
Pure Silk Saree
"These sarees are made out of pure silk and mostly come in dual tones. You can wear them to temples and other special occasions," says Pallavi.
She says silk Sarees can range between RM550 and RM1,800 each.
Designer Cotton Saree
The designer cotton Saree is perfect for daily wear and has a price range of between RM400 and RM1,200.
Dinner Saree
"Dinner sarees are all about glitz and glamour. They are suitable to be worn during parties, ballroom events and special dinners," says Pallavi.
The price of Dinner Sarees are normally between RM480 and RM2,400.
Tissue Saree
"Tissue Sarees are usually hard to the touch and quite transparent. They are only suitable to be worn at night," says Pallavi.
These type of Sarees can cost from RM280 up to RM450.
Georgette Saree
"Sarees made from the beautiful Georgette fabric can be worn at any occasion. It is very popular with plus-size women as the fabric wraps the body in a flattering way, giving it a slimming effect," says Pallavi.
The cheapest Georgette Sarees are usually priced around RM650, with the most expensive being around RM1,400.
Kaanjee Silk Saree
"These Sarees are exquisite and can be custom-made. Some people even print their names on these type of Sarees. It can be worn for weddings and special events," Pallavi says.
She says these type of Sarees can cost between RM800 and RM35,000.
