But these trips don’t have to feel like a maddening waste of time, especially if your journey is epic.
One animator from England has found a way to make his train journeys more interesting, simply by turning his fellow passengers into cartoon characters using nothing but marker pens and sticky notes.
When asked on Twitter why he did so, Joe Butcher, who is best known by his Twitter name OctoberJones said he did them to combat boredom on his long commute.
"I posted them on Twitter because I thought they might brighten other peoples' train journeys. Also, I've never been caught doing it. I'm pretty stealthy :)," he said.
