Candidates who will occupy the two female executive committee seats in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) after its upcoming congress should have deep knowledge and love for the sport.
FAM Women's Football Committee chairman Brig-Gen Datuk Norhuda Ahmad said the two characteristics were important to take women's football to the next level.
The current FAM executive committe member said the national women's football team would have a bright future if managed well and given wider opportunities.
"To me, anyone who offers themselves as candidates must be capable and confident of advancing women's football.
"If a person does not know about football and aren't confident, for sure they would not be candidates for this position. We need to think about advancing women's football, and not our personal interests. Let the best person win," she told Bernama in a recent interview.
Norhuda, 60, is among seven female candidates competing for the two seats in FAM's executive committee at its 53rd Congress on Saturday.
The other candidates are Norhuda's deputy, Normala Md Yusof, Shafizah Umamah Abdul Mutalib, Roselina Idrus, Tuan Nah Nik Him, Datuk Suraya Yaacob and Isfarina Mohd Bali.
On major changes in FAM's top leadership, Norhuda said she would urge whoever led FAM not to neglect the development of women's football. - Bernama
