The Terengganu government is considering whether to form another professional cycling team that can compete in local and international championships.
Youth, Sports and Human Resources Committee chairman, Datuk Rozi Mamat said the state government was still discussing the matter because it involves a high expenditure.
"It is being studied. We want to give our young riders the opportunity to gain experience," he said when met by reporters after the end of Tour of Malaysia Cycling Championship at Dataran Shahbandar, here, Saturday.
Rozi was satisfied with the performance of Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) although the riders failed to win the overall title.
"Although they failed to win the overall title, they gave a tough fight and maybe next year, they can improve their performance.
"We fielded rookie so that they can gain experience at international level to replace the aging riders," he added.
TSG is the country's first professional cycling team. It is funded by the Terengganu state government and the private sector. -- Bernama
