After only managing one silver and one bronze in individual events yesterday, Malaysian archers bounced back with gold medals in team compound events on Thursday.
The two gold medals represent Malaysia's second and third overall after yesterday's win by the chinlone team.
The women's team of Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, Saritha Cham Nong and Nurul Syazhera, who received a bye in the first round and beat Thailand 229-219 in the semi-finals, faced 2015 gold medallists Vietnam in the final.
Leading 169-166 at the end of the third end, the Malaysian ladies nearly let the gold medal slip away in the final end as they only managed 56, while Vietnam scored an almost perfect end of 59, to make the score tie at 225-225 and force a nerve-wrecking shoot-off.
Despite that, they held their nerves to score 28 points compared to Vietnam's 27 to emerge victorious by a single point.
As for the men's team, they defended the gold medal they won in 2015 by beating Singapore 228-226.
The trio of Juwaidi Mazuki, Lee Kin Lip and Zulfadhli Ruslan reached the final after beating Laos (234-203) and Vietnam (256-254).
The Philippines and Indonesia won bronze in the men's and women's events respectively.
