The Malaysian contingent failed to claim a podium finish on the seventh day of the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.
Mohd Shahmil Mohd Saad who competed in the men's powerlifting under 107kg only managed to lift 196kg which put him in eighth place out of nine athletes in the event held at the Riocentro Pavilion 2.
The lift, however, was enough for the 30-year-old to equal his personal best which he set at the 2016 IPC Powerlifting World Cup in Kuala Lumpur in February.
Pavlos Mamalos of Greece won the gold with 238kg while Egypt's Mohamed Ahmed and Ali Sadeghzadehsalmani of Iran had to settle for the silver and bronze medals with lifts of 233kg and 226kg respectively.
Meanwhile, national paralympic archer Yuhaizam Yahya failed to advance to the next round after losing 126-136 to Hadi Nori of Iran in the 1/16 elimination round in the compound event. -- BERNAMA
