AMERICAN Max Holloway claimed the undisputed UFC featherweight title, stopping long-reigning champion Jose Aldo in the third round of UFC 212 main event in Rio de Janeiro, Associated Press reported Sunday.
During the third round of the fight, Holloway dropped his Brazilian opponent to the ground with a right hand blow.
Holloway then went for the mount position and punished Aldo with some huge strikes until referee John McCarthy stopped the bout at 4:13 minutes.
Meanwhile, women strawweight sensation Claudia Gadelha from Brazil overpowered Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz via submission in the first round of the co-main event.
Kowalkiewicz gave up her back too easily, providing an opportunity for Gadelha to perform a rear naked choke - forcing Kowalkiewicz to tap out.
