China's badminton ace Lin Dan is on the right path to wrest his maiden Malaysia Open Premier Super Series after notching an easy win at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, today.
Soon after collecting his second point in the first game, his opponent Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia retired due to back injury which he had suffered at the Indian Open Grand Prix in January.
"Many fans wanted to see me play Lee Chong Wei but unfortunately he is suspended. I hope to get support from the Malaysian fans and will play my best here as I have never won the Malaysian Open title."
The last time Lin Dan was in action at the 2012 Malaysia Super Series but lost to Denmark's Jan O Jogensen 14-21, 21-15, 21-15 in the second round.
Meanwhile, Tommy said he had to concede the match as he could no longer bear the pain around the waist.
"I had difficulty moving forward what more engage in fast play and court control," he added.
