Chong Wei moves up third in ranking

National badminton champion Datuk Lee Chong Wei has moved up to the third position in the world ranking based on the ranking given by the badminton World Federation (BWF) and is on the right track to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Chong Wei had returned to action in June after being suspended for eight months by BWF for doping.
Following the suspension, his ranking dropped from the world number one player to 180.

Commenting on the achievement, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director, Morten Frost Hansen said Chong Wei’s position moved up dramatically from 180 to the third position in less than six months.
“Chong Wei had shown an impressive performance... it is a good achievement as he won three championships in a row.
“His achievement is good for the national badminton. My expectation was precise ... since the first day of being here, I believed that Chong Wei was able to make it,” said Frost here on Thursday.

Frost was met by reporters at the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) Junior Badminton Tournament 2015 at the Sports Arena in Sentosa, Kuala Lumpur.
Speaking on the national men’s singles coach, Frost said currently, he is unable to list the names of the coach yet, however they comprise of local and international coaches.
“I have yet to discuss with Chong Wei about the singles coach....like I said, there is a choice from the list of coaches. I hope to choose a coach by the end of December,” said Frost.
