A Malaysian badminton doubles pair, on a three-city tour of New Zealand and Australia, last night won the 2015 Victor Maribyrnong International Series here in three sets.
Vountus Indra Mawan, 26, of Sabah and Darren Isaaz Devadas, 20, of Kuala Lumpur defeated Australian duo Matthew Chua and Sawan Serasighe 24-22, 21-10, 21-14 in the final.
"We fought hard to wrest the initiative after losing the first set," Darren told Bernama last night.
"We went through four rounds rather easily before reaching the final."
Last week, the Malaysian pair, from the Kawasaki New Vision Badminton Academy in Kuala Lumpur, won the doubles crown in Auckland, New Zealand, downing Poh Li Wei and Yang Ming Tse of Taiwan 21-7, 21-12.
The Malaysians, who have been impressive in their tour so far, fly to Sydney today for their final match.
"We hope to continue our success in Sydney and return home triumphant," Darren said.
He said he and Vountus had received a wonderful reception here and in Auckland, adding that they had enjoyed the tour immensely.
He paid tribute to his coach K. Yogandran.
"He prepared us well," he said.
