National men's doubles, Chooi Kah Ming/Low Juan Shen won their maiden senior title at the Indonesian International Challenge at Gelora Universitas Semarang courts in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia today.
The sixth seeded who were only paired a couple months ago, stunned their fellow teammates, the fourth seed Lee Jian Yi/Lim Zhen Ting;21-15 and 21-19, said the Badminton World Federation (BWF) website;www.bwfbadminton.org.
National women's doubles, Lim Yin Loo/Yap Cheng Wen gave Malaysia the second title after their opponent, the second seeded Nisak Puji Lestari/Merisa Cindy Sahputri of Indonesia, withdrew in the second set.
The Indonesian pair took a 21-14 lead before pulling out in the second set while trailing 10-15 after one of them sustained an injury.
Malaysia's interest in the women's singles fizzled out after the only player left standing, Sonia Cheah lost 21-17, 19-21 and 11-21 to the third seed, Hana Ramadhini of Indonesia.
The nation's challenge in the men's singles fizzled out on Friday while Malaysia did not send any representative in the mixed doubles competition of the tournament that offers US$20,000 (RM84,103) as total prize money. -- Bernama
