LIM: How many 24 hours is required by Zahid before the police can act against the several police reports made against Mashitah?
National DAP Parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang is urging Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to explain why no investigation was made towards Baling Wanita Umno chief Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim, although a police report was made.
Lim said Zahid was taking a long time to order the police to investigate the statement made by Dr Mashitah during the recent UMNO General Assembly.
"How many 24 hours is required by Zahid before the police can act against the several police reports made against Mashitah?
"48 hours, 96 hours, 240 hour or 480 hours?
"I want to meet with Zahid before the 480 hours on December 18 expires to find out why the Home Minister failed to keep his promise that the police will initiate an investigation within 24 hours of a report made against an individual related to a sensitive issue," he said in a statement today.
He said that within a week after the speech given by Dr Mashitah, three police reports were lodged by DAP MP Teo Nie Chong and Kasthuri Patto and his political secretary, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud however no action taken until now.
He said, what is surprising is the silence and lack of action by UMNO leaders which indicated that they were willing to conspire with the offense made by Mashitah.
"It is shocking that a former deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department can be so irresponsible in spreading hate remarks and evoking unease among races and religion, tension and conflict.
"Mashitah is still not willing to withdraw her liesn and publicly apologize on her speech which was so irresponsible," he said.
Lim said apart from Mashitah, Penang representative, Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said also issued a speech with the intention to create fear.
