ALOR SETAR:The UMNO Supreme Council (MT) has agreed to a motion to sever cooperation with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in facing the 15th General Election (GE15).

UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, however, explained that the final decision or the legitimacy regarding the motion must be decided at the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) on January 31.

According to him, the proposal was among the motions received by the MT in its meeting held on January 6 and it will be included as a motion in the UMNO president's policy speech at the PAU later.

"The motion (to reject cooperation with Bersatu) was brought to the MT meeting on January 6 and we have decided to accept the motions and we will ratify them in the UMNO General Assembly on January 31.

"So far, the MT's decision is to reject (Bersatu), but the final decision to ratify it, as I have just said, is on January 31 which will be included in the motion of the UMNO president's policy speech at the time," he said when met by the media after holding a meeting with the Kedah UMNO leadership at the Kedah UMNO Building here on Saturday.

Zahid said the meeting was to replace the convention held in each state ahead of the UMNO General Assembly as before.

In the meeting, he also reminded that the UMNO leadership and grassroots can strengthen cooperation with PAS through Muafakat Nasional (MN).

MN, he explained, should be used as a platform for unification, especially in the face of GE15 which is likely to be held in the near future.
