GEORGE TOWN: Rembau Member of Parliament, Khairy Jamaludin said he has not made any decision on the position that he will be contest in the UMNO election.
According to him, a decision on the matter will only be made after the party's Supreme Council (MT) finalises a decision on whether to hold the election this year or postpone it.
At the same time, he stressed that the MT should hold the party's election this year and no longer postpone it.
"I want there to be a decision that there will be an election first, then only to think of contesting.
"Yes, right now there is no MT decision to postpone or hold an election. The main thing is, MT has to make a decision, don't postpone the election, hold a new election," he said when asked yesterday whether he would contest again for the post of UMNO president in the party's election.
Khairy, who is also the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, had previously contested the post during the election for the 2018-2021 term, but lost when he only got 61 votes compared to Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who got 99 votes.
The UMNO election was supposed to be held last year in line with the 2020 UMNO General Assembly but was postponed due to the Movement Control Order (PKP) following the COVID-19 pandemic.
