Calls to expedite recognition for the United Examination Certificate (UEC) was one of the resolutions passed at the 63rd MCA annual general assembly on Sunday.

The resolution on the UEC stated that certificate holders could apply for entry into public universities and the civil service.

The UEC is a private examination conducted by the Dong Zong, the United Chinese School Committees' Association of Malaysia.

Six resolutions were passed Sunday, covering 20 areas relating to party affairs, politics, economics, education, government and international relations.

The resolutions were passed unanimously by the delegates who attended the AGM held at Wisma MCA here.

The AGM also urged that the current education system with various streams be maintained and called on the government to help develop Chinese schools and Chinese private schools in the country.

In the area of vocational education, the AGM declared its support for the government's policies to allocate additional resources for it.

On party affairs, the AGM also urged the party's transformation be speeded up so that it could remain at the frontline to protect the rights and interests of the Chinese community as well as diversity in the country. -- BERNAMA
