Sarawak election: DAP makes last-minute change of candidate at Stakan

Democratic Action Party (DAP) changed their candidate for the N17 Stakan state assembly seat at the last minute during nomination day for the 11th Sarawak State Elections.
Leslie Ting Xiang Zhi, 25, arrived at the nomination centre at 9.25am to replace Aziz Isa who was earlier announced as the party’s candidate for the seat.
Leslie was accompanied by her nominator Tony Kilin, and supporter Edmund Damit Asong.
Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for Stakan, Datuk Seri Mohamad Ali Mahmud arrived at the nomination centre about the same time as BN Muara Tuang candidate Datuk Idris Buang at 8.45am.
More than 2,000 supporters turned out at the centre.
The Stakan seat will see a straight fight between BN and DAP.
In another development, it is a three-cornered fight between BN, PAS and Amanah at the Muara Tuang constituency.
Idris Buang will compete against PAS’s Zulkifli Ramzi and also Amanah’s Abang Abdul Halil Abang Maili.
Muara Tuang constituency has 16,186 voters where 15,918 of them are regular voters, 120 from the military, 147 from the police force, and one absent voter who is currently abroad.
Stakan constituency has 14,846 voters where 7,788 are regular voters, 7,050 from the military and five from the police force, and one absent voter abroad.
