Warisan Plus will use three logos for its candidates in the Sabah state election to be held this month, said Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal today.
He said the three logos are Warisan, United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
The Warisan logo will be used by candidates to be fielded by Warisan, DAP and Amanah, while UPKO and PKR candidates will use their own party logo, he said when announcing the matter at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here.
Mohd Shafie said as for now, Warisan, DAP, UPKO and Amanah will contest in 66 of the 73 state seats, with the remaining by PKR.
Warisan gets 46 seats, UPKO (12 seats), DAP (seven seats), PKR (seven seats) and Amanah (one seat). There are 73 state seats in Sabah.
Mohd Shafie, who is Chief Minister, is defending the Senallang state seat.
Two former federal ministers are among the 66 candidates to be fielded by Warisan Plus. They are former International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Darell Leiking and former Tourism Minister Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi.
The two former ministers will contest as Warisan’s candidates, with Darell, who is also Penampang Member of Parliament, to be fielded for the Moyog state seat, while Mohamaddin will contest for the Segama state seat.
Today’s event was also attended by Sabah PKR leader Datuk Christina Liew, Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Frankie Poon, UPKO chairman Datuk Seri Madius Tangau and Sabah Amanah chairman Lahirul Latigu.
Shafie, in his speech, said it was important for the Warisan Plus coalition to field candidates who could work and win for the people, as well as form a large team to continue to administer the state.
“Sabah has to be retained. We must serve the people. The state election is very challenging, the challenge is not only from outside.
“People choose us not because of money, but (we) can make better changes. I inculcate high values to change the society, as such it is crucial we place the right candidates,” he added.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Sept 26 for polling, with nomination to be held this Saturday.
