UMNO Johor respects Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s decision to drop party deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from his new cabinet line-up, said Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin.

“UMNO Johor believes government matters are the Prime Minister’s prerogative. It must be respected and upheld even if some of us are hurt by the decision,” he said in his speech at the UMNO Pasir Gudang delegates meeting today.

“There is only one UMNO caption and that is the UMNO president. We must give him our trust to control the ship,” he said adding that this will not reduce the respect UMNO Johor has for Muhyiddin.

The meeting was also attended by Najib.

Khaled also spoke about the ‘Johor style’ in handling the current situation which he said all parties must cooperate and work together as a family.

He also called on all quarters to continue paying their respects to Muhyiddin and hoped that the UMNO veteran will continue to uphold UMNO’s struggles.

“This is UMNO Johor. We emphasis on values, culture and hold dear to principles. That is why UMNO continues to be trusted in Johor,” he said.

Muhyiddin was dropped as the Deputy Prime Minister in the Cabinet reshuffle on July 28. He was replaced with UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The following day, Muhyiddin held a press conference where he related how Najib seemed to have a difficult time telling him how he was not included in the new Cabinet line-up, and how the matter was conveyed in very few words.

Yesterday UMNO Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has called on party members who had demanded for Muhyiddin's resignation as UMNO deputy president to quit doing so.

She said Muhyiddin had the right and would not break any party rule should he decide to remain in the position.

She was commenting on calls by party division chiefs for Muhyiddin to "resign and take a rest".
