The proposed secretariat to help run MIC until its crisis is resolved is the biggest embarrassment to the party, said its former party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

And the reason for the interference from BN is because of party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel and his inefficiency, Samy Vellu further alleged.

He said Palanivel's failure to turn up at a meeting scheduled with the Prime Minister today, citing his wife's health, is perhaps the worse thing he could do, especially at a time like this.

“I feel that this is the worst thing that I have seen in MIC politics. When the PM invites MIC President to meet him, he gave the excuse that his wife is sick," he told Astro AWANI when contacted.

“Even if his wife is sick, he is not a doctor to attend to her. If this situation happened to me, I will send the doctor to attend to my wife and I will still go and meet the Prime Minister,”

“Even if his wife is sick, he is not a doctor to attend to her. If this situation happened to me, I will send the doctor to attend to my wife and I will still go and meet the Prime Minister,” he added.

Samy Vellu who had helmed MIC for 22 years, alleged that Palanivel is trying to ‘kill’ MIC.

“I think he will be the last President of MIC. If he doesn’t improve, he is going to face a lot of trouble,” he said.

Earlier today, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the secretariat will be formed to ensure the party is run smoothly until its internal crisis is solved.

He said the secretariat, consisting BN component parties, will be also tasked also to do a clean-up of all the branches declared illegal by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

Last Dec 5, the RoS had directed MIC to hold re-elections for three vice-president and 23 CWC posts within 90 days, following irregularities in the elections held in 2013.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that the MIC would hold re-elections at all levels from April to July to resolve the crisis, and prevent it from being de-registered.
