Police want women party members campaigning in the Pengkalan Kubor by-election to move in groups with men included to avoid any untoward incidents.
Kelantan Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department chief, ACP Dahlan Mohd Noor said this was in the interest of the their own safety and security.
"This way it will prevent them from being disturbed. And furthermore, in house-to-house campaigning not all will be welcoming because of different allegiances," he told reporters here Monday.
He also urged house-to-house campaigners not to use aggressive tactics in canvassing votes.
He pointed out that police had stepped up patrols in the constituency to prevent any untoward incidents.
"So far no complaints have been lodged with the police and we hope campaigning will be clean throughout," he added.
In related matters, he said police had received 12 application to hold ceramah, all from the Barisan Nasional, and called on the parties involved to apply cermah permits early so that the police could facilitate crowd and traffic control.
In the by-election, Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Mat Razi Mat Ail, 48, will be facing PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, 56, and an Independent, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 47.
The by-election is being held following the death of the area's assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar of the BN from liver cancer on Aug 20.
In the 13th general election last year, Nor Zahidi defeated Saharun Ibrahim from PKR and Izat Bukhary with a 1,736-vote majority.
Polling will be on Sept 25.
