Sarawak's Parti Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) today unanimously backed Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg as the new Sarawak Chief Minister, said senior party vice president Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

This follows the passing of chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem on Wednesday.

He said the decision was reached at a meeting among the party's Supreme Council members along with Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud at his residence here.

"Yes, the meeting was good... it went on smoothly. We all support Abang Jo. Wait after the swearing in. Our party, PBB will support Abang Jo," he told reporters after leaving Tun Abdul Taib's residence at Demak Jaya here Friday.

He, however, did not confirm the rumour that the swearing-in of the sixth Chief Minister will be held at 4pm today at Astana Sarawak.
