UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir characterised the decision of not allowing its party Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to speak during the closing ceremony of the UMNO General Assembly 2015 on Saturday as a way of calming the situation within the party.
Zamby who is also Perak Menteri Besar said that the decision taken by the Supreme Council members should not be seen as punishment but as a way of reducing the friction within the party.
“The decision made by the Supreme Council is not to punish but to ensure that the party assembly runs smoothly,” said Zambry during a press conference here today.
He also expressed confidence that all UMNO members understood that the action taken was for the good of the party.
“The representatives themselves have voiced that both sides need to come together again and forgive each other for the sake of the party’s interest and unity.
"The strength of a party is its unity. We will see problems within the party if it there is no unity among its members,” said Zambry.
