Nomination today for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election closed at 10am, and four people filed their papers at the nomination centre at Dewan Jubli Perak Kuala Kangsar.

Barisan Nasional candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid, who is still in mourning over the death of her husband, the late MP Datuk Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, was represented by Datuk Megat Ahmad Shahrani Megat Sharuddin, deputy president of the Perak Malaysian Malay Contractors Association.

Also filing their papers were Perak PAS Women's chief Najihatussalehah Ahmad, Kuala Kangsar Amanah chief Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi Ramli and an Independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.

Meanwhile, Perak Police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Hanafi, when approached by reporters, said the nomination process went smoothly.

"About 1,000 officers and personnel have been deployed for the nomination," he said.

About 6,000 supporters of the candidates had gathered as early as 7am for the nomination.
