The MIC is proposing to have a fresh election from the branch level, right up to the presidential level before year-end, says president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel.
However, he insisted this was not the final decision as his appeal to overturn the decision of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) earlier, was still pending in court.
"This is only a proposal to have this election because we have to take few other considerations," he told a press conference after meeting 2,760 MIC branch members at Dewan Merdeka in the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) today.
The first step, Palanivel said, was to have an independent legal and audit committee between August and September this year, which later would be tasked to conduct the election.
However, the natural resources and environment minister added the majority of the soon-to-be-formed committee members would be from the MIC.

MIC to focus on party re-elections, says Dr Subramaniam
I am still MIC president, says Palanivel
Asked if the proposal was agreed by his deputy, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, he said that was not relevant anymore as the former was suspended, alongside with 13 other members.
Palanivel also claimed he had met Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and that he had agreed for a new election to be held soon.
Earlier in his speech before the 5,000 delegates inside the hall, Palanivel stressed that he was still party president as he was legally appointed by the party's constitution.
He said he had always been committed to improving the lives of Malaysian Indians and bring a better future for society.
Tomorrow will be Dr Subramaniam's turn to meet with the branch chairmen, in a move to garner support.
Party observers earlier said the gathering was very much needed for both to convince and explain their actions and standing in the party to enable branch chairmen to choose the right leader who could bring reforms and renewals to keep the MIC relevant.
