Malays have to beg to remain in power, says Tun M

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the political powers of the Malays have weakened due to disunity, prompting them to beg other races for support to remain in power.

Mahathir said even though the Malays hold the majority of the country's population at 60 percent, but their power has greatly weakened.

"Now UMNO, PKR, and PAS have to beg for support from DAP to win the general election.

"When we become beggars, we no longer have power," he said.

Mahathir added that even if the country has achieved the developed-nation status, Malays will still be left behind, especially in the economic sector.

He also advised them to change their ways.

Mahathir made the statement when delivering his keynote speech at a youth leadership programme in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.
