KLUANG: UMNO members are asked to stop pitting party leaders against each other, including attempts to set up certain camps within the party.
Sembrong Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, said efforts to strengthen the party is very important at this time because it is seen that there are more and more instigators among politicians who want to bring down UMNO leaders.
"I ask all parties, enough is enough… please stop. We have a lot more agendas and I have already stated the other day what is important is the stability of the party itself.
"Efforts to pit leaders against each other, efforts to create certain camps, pitting camps against one another must stop because our efforts now is to strengthen the party," he said at the Malaysia Prihatin Sembrong Programme at the Kluang Municipal Council Hall, Paloh , Johor.
Asked to comment on the viral audio clip of the alleged conversation involving Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi that had spread since last Wednesday, Hishamuddin said the party's stand needed to be strengthened and UMNO members needed to return to the Supreme Council's stand.
Whether the audio recording is genuine or otherwise, he said, it was not a matter of concern.
“For me, what is important is the party's stand and if we go back to the stand of the UMNO Supreme Council and General Assembly recently, it is clear what UMNO really wants.
"Whether it is true or not, fake or otherwise, the recording is not a matter that worries me because everyone knows the party's stance from the beginning is "No Anwar, No DAP, Yes Bersatu" until the 15th General Election," he added.
Earlier, an audio recording allegedly of a conversation between two individuals with voices similar to Ahmad Zahid and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after the UMNO General Assembly had gone viral.
