'IRRESPONSIBLE': Tian Chua's call for a mass demonstration is a clear contempt of court and it can be translated as an open challenge to the rule of law in Malaysia, Gerakan says.
Gerakan today slammed PKR vice-president Tian Chua for saying that a mass demonstration would be held if opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim loses his appeal against his sodomy conviction.
Its Law and Human Rights Bureau chairman Baljit Singh said this clearly showed that PKR had little regards towards judicial integrity and nomocracy (rule of law).
He said Tian Chua's call for a mass demonstration was also clear contempt of court, and it could be translated as an open challenge to the rule of law in the country, besides being dangerously provocative and irresponsible.
"Is it an open pledge towards lawless violence or anarchism by PKR? He must retract his words and explain to the public," Baljit said in a statement.
He also urged politicians and the public to maintain a respectful attitude towards the courts by refraining from showing approval or disapproval of the proceedings.
He also asserted that Gerakan was against mass demonstrations that transgressed the bounds of the law and wrongful promotion of social disorder.
