Former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should contest in the 14th general election (GE14) so that he could be elected and able to voice his views through the right channel, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said.

"If he wants to lead a group of people to topple the prime minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) and the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, he should do it in a more effective platform, the Dewan Rakyat.

"So, he should contest in the GE14 to be elected as people's representative," Nazri said, adding that such a move would also prove whether or not Dr Mahathir still had the people's support.

By becoming a Member of Parliament, Dr Mahathir could voice out his views and opinions about the ruling government in Dewan Rakyat, and not during street demonstrations, he told reporters after launching the Warna Warni Aidilfitri 2016 promotion at the Craft Complex in Jalan Conlay here today.

He said this in response to Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail's remarks challenging Dr Mahathir to contest in the 14th general election if he wished to become the opposition leader.

Meanwhile, the ongoing Warna Warni Aidilfitri 2016 promotion, which began yesterday and would end on July 3, promotes the use of local craft products for Aidilfitri.

A total of 220 craft entrepreneurs are participating in the eight-day event which targets to record RM3 million in sales.

Various other activities have also been lined up to enliven the promotion, including traditional kueh-making demonstration and cultural performances.
