PAS candidate for the Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad has advised everyone not to make 'iddah' as an issue in the election campaign.
"I submit to Islamic law ... I advise everyone not to touch on the 'iddah' issue," she told reporters on the sidelines of the 56th PAS Women's Wing Muktamar (Assembly) here today.
She was referring to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid who cannot participate in the election campaign scheduled to begin on June 5 as she would be observing the four months 10 days 'iddah' period following the death of her husband, as prescribed in Islamic law.
The Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-election will be held on June 18. It has been called following the death of Mastura's husband, Wan Khair-il Anuar, who was the incumbent MP, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.
Meanwhile, when asked about her challenges in facing Mastura, Dr Najihatussalehah said: "It is not going to be easy for me as she will still be campaigning via social media."
