DAP is not interested to contest in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-elections next month, said party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today.

“We will support the Pakatan Harapan candidate (to be named). But, for sure, DAP is not interested to take part in the by-elections,” he said.

According to Lim, the decision whether Pakatan Harapan will contest in the coming by-elections will only be made together with the other opposition party leaders.

“We will discuss this together, then only there is a spirit of solidarity. I do not want to speak too soon,” he said while refusing to comment further.

“I think, we have to ask the Selangor Menteri Besar first, because this is his state, it is only correct and proper to do that,” he said referring to Datuk Seri Azmin Mohamed Ali.

The by-elections in Selangor and Perak are scheduled to take place simultaneously on June 18 following the deaths of the incumbent representatives, Datuk Noriah Kasnon and Datuk Wan Muhammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad respectively, in a helicopter tragedy early this month.

Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister, said this after launching the Penang Anime Matsuri 2016 Magical Summer here on Saturday .

Asked whether the party would prohibit its members in the two Parliamentary constituencies from voting for PAS, Lim reiterated his statement yesterday that DAP will only support the candidate to be named by Pakatan Harapan .

Meanwhile, he also refused to comment on the statement by Azmin, who is also PKR deputy president, proposing for PAS to return to Pakatan Harapan.

“I do not wish to comment further. We give way to the Selangor MB. He has to bring the matter up and explain it in the presidential council meeting,” he added.

In the 2013 general election, Wan Muhammad defeated PAS candidate, Khalil Idham Lim with a majority of 1,082 votes while Noriah retained the seat with a slim majority of 399 against PAS candidate, Mohamed Saleh M Hussain.
