Police have arrested six men, three of them foreigners, on suspicion of having assaulted a politician and three of his friends in Bidor, 45km south of here, yesterday.
Perak Police election spokesman Supt Maszely Minhad said today the men, in two cars, had blocked the path of the car carrying the 32-year-old politician and his friends in front of a bank at about 6.30 pm.
They punched the politician and his friends who then reported the matter at the Tapah police station.
"A swift-action team which rushed to the scene arrested three Malaysians, two Sri Lankans and an Indian, all aged between 20 and 60," he told a news conference.
He said the police also seized two cars.
Maszely said the three Malaysians were released on police bail today.
He said the Indian did not have valid travel papers.
Meanwhile, Maszely said the police received 28 reports on election offences yesterday and had launched investigation into two cases.
He also said that 140 'ceramah' (talks) were held throughout Perak yesterday and 20 of them were found to have been held without a permit.
