Pakatan Rakyat is believed not to have reached a consensus in the distribution of seats and candidates competing in the upcoming 13th General Election.

A press conference by its leaders originally scheduled at 4pm today was cancelled after it was postponed.

“The press conference was cancelled as the meeting was still on-going and we didn’t know when it would finish,” said an officer at the Parti Pakatan Rakyat (PKR) headquarter to reporters waiting for the press conference.

DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok were seen leaving the PKR headquarter before being followed by Pas deputy president Mohamad Sabu.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had previously said that Pakatan Rakyat will only announce the candidates for the remaining seats only after Barisan Nasional have announced their candidates.

Among the seats that have yet to be filled by Pakatan Rakyat candidates are Telok Kemang, Kuala Pilah, and Rembau parliamentary seats. The three seats were contested by PKR candidates during the 2008 general election but managed to win the Telok Kemang seat only.

As for the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat in Negeri Sembilan, the Labu seat will be a problem as PKR wanted their candidate to contest in that seat and not by a Pas candidate as decided by Pakatan Rakyat.

Apart from that, problems are expected to arise at the Sungai Acheh DUN seat in Penang involving PKR and Pas and the Johor Jaya DUN seat in Johor involving PKR and DAP.

Problems will also arise at the Changkat Jering DUN seat after Pas announced that the seat will be contested by Datuk Seri Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin even though the seat was contested by a PKR candidate in 2008.

Over at KUALA TERENGGANU, PKR President Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail warned Pakatan Rakyat not to be divided to ensure a win for GE13.

She said, individual popularity is not important and that consensus could be jeopardised if members are divided over many issues.

“It is stated in the Al-Quran that if win, it is up to Allah. Even if we lose, it is up to Allah, but it is due to our limitations,” she said during the announcement of four PKR candidates who will be competing for the Terengganu DUN seats.

Wan Azizah also admitted that there are problems to choose a Pakatan Rakyat candidate for the Seberang Takit and Kota Putera DUN seats but it will resolved by PKR and Pas.
