Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim announced Saturday that he wishes to contest in the Port Klang state assembly seat during the 13th general election (GE-13).
Khalid made the announcement through his Twitter message yesterday.
However, he said that the decision depends on how well the locals there accept him.
“I will meet the supporters in Port Klang tomorrow and if they support me, I shall work towards a greater victory for PR (Pakatan Rakyat),” said Khalid in his Twitter post.
He admitted that Pakatan Rakyat had made a mistake when they placed a ‘hopping’ candidate in the previous general election.
The seat’s incumbent, Badrul Hisham Abdullah left PKR to become an independent state assemblyman before joining Umno later on.
Meanwhile, Khalid has proposed a new candidate, Dr Idris Ahmad, an Ijok local to contest in the Ijok state assembly seat.
“I hope the Ijok supporters will continue to support the candidates agreed by the leadership. I would like to thank them for all their support and help,” he added.
In the 12th general election, Khalid won the Ijok seat after defeating Barisan Nasional candidate, Datuk Mohamad Sayuti Said with a majority of 1,920 votes.
